May 2020 CEO Message

I hope that this email greets you well and starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel through this challenging time. With some of the COVID-19 restrictions now lifting, I just wanted to give you an update on WSC Group operations as we continue to support you. All WSC Group office locations are now open, adopting COVID-19 safe measures including providing hand sanitiser for all staff and clients onsite. Please note that if you have any flu like symptoms, we ask that you reconsider your need to attend our offices. As an alternative, would be happy to organise a meeting via video conference to ensure we are able to continue meeting your accounting, financial and taxation needs.

In summary:

  1. Sydney offices - Both our City office and Menai office are fully operational as of mid-May and we will be conducting face to face meetings compliant with COVID-19 safe guidelines. We will be booking various meeting rooms depending on the number clients attending the meeting.
  2. Melbourne office - our Melbourne office has re-opened and we are available for face to face meetings compliant with COVID-19 safe guidelines. Please note that myself, Lindsay Davis and Catherine Simons cannot travel interstate as of yet but will be available for any meetings via technology.
  3. Newcastle office - We have begun conducting face to face meetings onsite, compliant with COVID-19 safe guidelines.
  4. Brisbane office - Face-to-face meetings are available at these offices, compliant with COVID-19 safe guidelines. Please note that myself and Catherine Simons cannot travel interstate at this time, however, will be available for any meetings via technology.
  5. Financial advising - Financial advising meetings continue to operate via technology. There is now scope to conduct some face to face meetings in Brisbane and Sydney, as required.

We would ask that you please confirm the number of people attending various meetings to assist us with these preparations to adhere to COVID-19 safe guidelines.

JobKeeper

We are starting to see JobKeeper payments come through. Please note that you must have submitted your Employee Nomination Notices to receive JobKeeper payments. If you need any help from our staff to complete this, please contact your Client Manager.

Tax Variations We have received a number of tax variations in the month of May already for the 2021 year, so if you have not provided details for us to complete your tax variation please endeavour to send these through this week.

Upcoming webinars We are continuing to provide updated COVID-19 announcements on a fortnightly basis, with our next webinar on Monday, 1 June at 1.00pm ASDT.

My thoughts post-COVID-19 I am sumer that the next few years are going to continue to be fairly subdued in terms of economic activity but from what I have seen in business, sometimes the best opportunities come when the economy is struggling. Just some thoughts on possible opportunities:

  1. Taking advantage on an increased foucs on local tourism in the next 12 months.
  2. An increased focus on local manufacturing opportunities.
  3. Focusing your business to take advantage of the various infrastructure projects which will be rolled out in the next 2 to 3 years.

As the CEO of WSC Group, I would love to be able to brainstorm the opportunities with you to assist you in creating wealth out of a difficult situation. There will be lots of exciting opportunities in the next 4 to 5 years.

Regards,
David Shaw
