The Wishaw Music Centre are delighted to present Nineteen-time Grammy nominee, Four-time Grammy winner and all-time guitar great, Larry Carlton in this exclusive Scottish guitar masterclass.
Larry possesses an extraordinary capacity to communicate both the freedom and technical aspects of playing the blues. Merging art and science, Larry shares with his audience the philosophical, mechanical, and musical approach to a genre rich in expression and improvisation. Throughout his masterclass, Larry focuses on his love of blues and jazz, and helps his audience to explore the different approaches to comping and soloing over choruses, as well as how to support a solo musically and develop personal solos. His goal during the masterclass is to help players better understand improvisation, rhythm playing, and soloing skills to help each attendee find his or her own voice.
Larry’s masterclass offers a rare opportunity for students not only to understand a top professional and his techniques, experiences and history, but to gain personal knowledge about the world of music through a living legend’s eyes. His main objective in this class is to share his knowledge and experience with the wonderful guitar fans of Scotland. With over 3,000 sessions, 200 hit records and 100 gold albums to his credit, Carlton has his fingerprints indelibly imprinted on virtually every genre of music. Larry also brings with him his own extensive collection of solo records spanning over 30 albums.
He uses his recordings as a tool to communicate different techniques, as well as to give his audience greater insight to each song and its history. In an attempt to better connect with his audience, Larry keeps the session open with opportunities to ask questions and communicate candidly. His students are encouraged to delve deeper into all the different aspects of playing and to take advantage of having an established teacher like Larry at their disposal to help better their craft.
